Pressing pellets from solids-based paste - by rotating toothed pressure member meshing with rotary die having orifices in tooth valleys

Mechanism is intended for pressing pellets (16) from liquid containing paste-like organic and/or inorganic material (e.g. centrifuged sludge resulting from the treatment of waste water in the paper industry) by pressing this material through orifices (3-6 mm dia.). It comprises a (cylindrical) die (1) provided with toothed part-circumferential internal (or external) portions (3) meshing with complementary externally toothed portions (5) on a (cylindrical) pressure member (4) whilst the die and/or the member is driven to rotate. The orifices (2) are arranged in the tooth valleys of the die and the viscous material is introduced between the die and the member (in space 10), the extruded pellets being discharged (e.g. removed by scraper 19). Used for pressing pellets from liquid-contg. paste-like material. The meshing engagement between the respective teeth prevents escape of the material in tangential direction and ensures that this material is extruded through the orifices under high pressure.
