PURPOSE:To compensate automatically the incorrect measuring of the coil diameter by determining the coil diameter by using one of the coil circumferential length of a winder which is measured from a strip length and the angle of rotation of the winder and the coil circumferential length calculated from the coil thickness. CONSTITUTION:A circumference measuring device 5 measures the strip length of one rotation of the winder 3 by the strip length outputted from pulse generators 2, 4 interlocked with a roll 1 and the winder 3 respectively and the angle of rotation of the winder 3 to determine the coil circumferential length and stores the coil circumferential length in a memory 6 to determine the coil diameter. A converter 8 finds out the difference between said coil circumferential length and the succeeding circumferential length based upon the strip thickness obtained from a thickness meter 7 and an adder 9 adds the difference to said coil circumferential length to obtain the operated coil circumferential length, which is compared with said coil circumferential length. When the difference of the compared result is a prescribed value or more, it is discriminated that the strip is slipped between the roll 1 and the winder 3, a switch 10 is turned off and the circumferential length calculated by the adder 9 is selected. Thus, the incorrect measurement of the coil diameter due to slip can be automatically compensated, so that a highly reliable coil diameter measuring device is obtained. |
