In a switched-mode power supply, separate two-point voltage control and two-point current control are provided. The two controllers act on a linking element which operates a switching element by means of which the output can be isolated from the input if required. As a result of this separate voltage control and current control, the value of the reservoir capacitor at the output can be selected to be of any desired size, and reliable switching-on of the power supply unit is ensured. <IMAGE>
