<p>NEW MATERIAL:L-Threo-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-N-methylserine, its salt and their hydrate. USE:Useful as a remedy for Perkinson's disease and an antidepressant. It forms adrenaline by the decarbonation in the peripheral system or in the brain, and exhibits various actions to the nervous system. PROCESS:The titled compound can be prepared by (1) optically resolving recemic threo-3-(3,4-dibenzyloxyphenyl)-N-p-methoxybenzyloxycarbonyl-serine with optically active ephedrin, optically active 2-amino-1,1-diphenyl-1-propanol, etc., (2) removing the protecting group with an acid, (3) subjecting the product to N-methylation reaction, and (4) further removing the protecting group.</p> |
