PURPOSE:To obtain a star coupler low in loss by bringing plural optical fibers each having one end flatly polished and an optical reflective mirror formed on the flat polished face except the cores, into contact with one end of a glass rod having an optical reflective film on the other end. CONSTITUTION:Plural optical fibers 2 are bundled into the group of the optical fibers using a guide, one end face is flatly polished, the other end is coated with a resist film hardenable by irradiation of UV rays, the other end is irradiated with UV rays to harden the resist film only on the cores 3, and the unhardened film is removed. A metal, such as gold or aluminum, is vapor deposited to all this end, and then, the resist film is removed by etching to leave an optical reflective film G on the flat polished face except the cores 3. This optical fiber 2 group on the side G is adhered to one end C of a glass rod 1 coated with an optical reflective film B on the other end using a metal, such as gold or aluminum, to obtain an intended star coupler. |
