PURPOSE:To enable to set margins by a single exclusive key, by a method wherein left and right margins are set by using ordinary letter keys L, R and a single controlling key in combination with each other, in an electronic typewriter or the like. CONSTITUTION:When a margin-setting key MS is depressed, a Q-output of a flip-flop F/F is made to be ''H'', then depressing the ordinary letter key L opens an AND gate AND1, and a left margin memory LM stores position information fed from a carriage position output device CPO. In accordance with a signal indicating the completion of storing, the flip-flop F/F is reset to thereby set the left margin. In this case, a signal as the letter L is cut by an AND circuit 3 since a Q'-output of the flip-flop F/F is ''L'', so that the signal is not inputted into a character processor CC. When only the key L is depressed without depressing the margin-setting key MS, a signal is outputted to the character processor CC. Setting of a right margin is similarly accomplished. Accordingly, margins can be set by providing a single exclusive key. |
