PURPOSE:To produce an Al alloy wire having excellent heat resistance and conductivity by subjecting a continuously cast billet contg. Zr, Fe and B to hot working, annealing and cold working under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:0.015-0.076 Zr, 0.07-0.38% Fe and <0.002% B are added and incorporated in Al and the components are so adjusted as to attain Fe%/5+ Zr%=0.04-0.09%. The molten Al alloy is cast continuously to a continuously cast billet which is then hot-rolled to a roughly drawn wire having >=12kg/mm.<2> tensile strength. The roughly drawn Al alloy wire is annealed at 180-260 deg.C to disperse finely the solutionized Fe and Zr as an intermetallic compd. with Al. The roughly drawn and annealed Al alloy is subjected to cold working such as drawing at >60% reduction area, by which the Al alloy wire rod having excellent heat resistance and electrical conductivity is produced.
