PURPOSE:To produce a conjugated diene useful as an important raw material of Diels-Alder reaction, in high efficiency, by isomerizing a conjugated diene in the presence of a combined catalyst composed of a cobalt compound, a phosphorus compound and an organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:A conjugated diene is produced by isomerizing a nonconjugated diene (preferably a 5-20C 1,4- or 1,5-diene) in the presence of a catalyst composed of (a) a cobalt compound selected from the halide, carboxylate, and coordination compound with beta-diketone or with beta-ketocarboxylic acid, (b) a phosphorus compound selected from diphosphine and diphosphine oxide compound of formula I or II (R<1> is alkyl, etc.; R<2> is alkylene, etc.; n is 0 or 1), and (C) an organoaluminum compound of formula III (R<3> is alkyl), e.g. a catalyst composed of acetylacetonato cobalt, bis(1,2-diphenyl-phosphino)ethane and triethyl aluminum, etc. |
