PURPOSE:To enable to control the feeding velocity of an ink ribbon with a small number of component parts, by a method wherein the moving direction of a printing head is discriminated on the basis of a signal from a head position detector, and the feeding velocity of an ink ribbon is controlled in accordance with the moving direction thus discriminated. CONSTITUTION:In a wire dot type line printer, a leftward inversion of the printing head 8 is discriminated by a signal from a photodiode 14-1, while a rightward inversion of the head 8 is discriminated by a signal from the second photodiode 14-2, and according to the discrimination results, a controlling part 16 controls the rotating speed of an ink ribbon feeding motor 6 at two levels, namely, a normal speed and a low speed. Namely, when the head 8 is moved in a leftward direction (the same direction as that of the ink ribbon 3), the ribbon 3 is fed at a normal velocity, and when the head 8 is moved in a rightward direction (the direction opposite to that of the ribbon 3), the ribbon is fed at a low velocity. |
