A rectilinear motion bearing, Figs. 2, 3 and 4, not shown, comprises a body 20, 21, 22 having a bearing surface 24, a channel 32 in the body having opposite ends 32c, 32d adjacent opposite ends of the surface 24, a plurality of ball bearings 28 positioned in the channel and engaging the surface 24, and yieldable means for guiding the balls 28 along the surface 24. The yieldable means comprises wires 43 and 44 of trapezoidal cross-section which are located in recesses 47 and 48 so as to be movable longitudinally and to permit the balls to travel along angled paths AN or BN. The bearing is provided with an enlarged portion 20a for guidance when it tilts longitudinally. A further embodiment describes a spring-loaded wedge to take up clearance between the bearing and slideway with which it is associated.
