PURPOSE:To obtain a body which consists of batteries connected in series and in which a safety valve is protected by using both a ring-like liquid-absorbing plate and a metallic connection member which has a cylindrical section having a closed top, a concave section formed around the cylindrical section and having degassing grooves, and a cylindrical peripheral section having a stage continuous with the outer periphery of the concave section. CONSTITUTION:A connection member 7 consisting of a metallic cup has a cylindrical section 11 having a closed top, a concave section 9 formed around the cylindrical section 11 and having degassing grooves 10, and a cylindrical peripheral section 8 having a stage continuous with the outer periphery of the concave section 9. At first a ring-like liquid-absorbing plate 14 is attached to the outer periphery of the concave section 9 before the cylindrical section 11 is attached to a metallic cap 3 which is an electrode part of a battery 2a to achieve positioning. Next, plural spots of the concave section 9 are welded to the brimmed section 5 of the cap 3 by spot welding. After that, the peripheral section 8 of the connection member 7 connected to the cap 3 is attached to a case which is an electrode part of another battery 2b before the peripheral section 8 and the case are welded together. By the means mentioned above, any bending of the batteries 2a and 2b connected in series as well as any shift between the batteries 2a and 2b are prevented, a safety valve can be protected and any leakage of electrolyte out of the connection member 7 can be prevented. |
