PURPOSE:To obtain an optional distance between substrates accurately independently of the size of a display area or the material of the substrates by using anode-oxidized aluminum layers as spacers. CONSTITUTION:Transparent electrodes 4 are patterned like stripes on a transparent glass substrate 2 and Al films are formed on parts from which the electrode 4 is removed by low temperature sputtering. The formed Al films are anode-oxidized in a sulfuric acid solution by constant current to obtain alumite spacers 5. A transparent substrate 1 on which transparent electrodes 3 are similarly patterned is combined with the substrate 2 having the spacers, the peripheral part is sealed and then liquid crystal is injected between the substrates. Since the uniformity of the interval between the substrates is kept even if the display area is increased, the display position is kept extremely high. Being fixed on the lower substrate 2, the spacers 5 are prevented from being overlapped to the transparent electrodes 4 and averts bad influence upon the display. |
