PURPOSE:To remove persistence and improve resolution in the vertical direction of a solid-state image pickup device by simultaneously impressing a voltage upon vertically transferring gate which is not connected with a reading out gate also when signal electric charge is read from a photoelectrical transducer and mixing the signal electric charge of an adjacent element. CONSTITUTION:At the 1st field time t1, packets are produced below the electrodes of phiV2, phiV3, and phiV4, but no signal electric charges exist. When signal reading out pulses are supplied to the phiV2 and phiV4 at a time t2, the signal electric charges of a photodiode are read to below the electrodes of the phiV2 and phiV4. Since a voltage is impressed upon the electrodes of phiV1 and phiV3 at this time, the potential is at a high position on the whole. At a time t3, the packet below the electrode of the phiV1 does not exist and the potential varies widely, and therefore, signal electric charges are mixed mainly below the electrode of the phiV3. Since no packet exists below the electrodes of the phiV1 and phiV2 at a time t4, the signal electric charges are accumulated below the electrodes of the phiV3 and phiV4. The accumulated signal electric charges are successively transferred by means of a transfer pulse thereafter. |
