A bearing assembly comprises a rolling bearing 20 with its inner race frictionally supported by a deformable element 34, frustoconical ends of element 34 engaging similar ends. on further elements 26, 54, one element being axially biased by a spring 62. The axial force on element 54 is translated into a radial force which deforms the element to centre the bearing. Friction between element 34 and the inner race damps axial vibrations.
