PURPOSE:To restrain fog and to enhance storage stability by combining a specified sensitizing dye with silver halide particles contained in a silver halide emulsion layer. CONSTITUTION:Silver halide particles contained in a silver halide emulsion layer formed on a support are spectrally sensitized, prevented from most of fog, effectively enhanced in sensitivity in a red region, and stabilized even during long term storage by combining them with sensitizing dyes represented by formula I , II, or III in which R1 is H, alkyl, or the like; R2 is alkyl; Y1, Y2 are each S or Se; Z1-Z4 are each H, halogen, or the like; X1<-> is an anion; Z5-Z8 are each H, halogen, or the like, or Z5 and Z6, Z7 and Z8 may combine with each other to form a ring; R4 is H or alkyl; R5, R8 are each alkyl or the like; X2<-> is an anion; Z9-Z12 are each H, halogen, or the like, and Z9 and Z10, Z11 and Z12 may form a ring; R9-R11 are each alkyl; and X3<-> is an anion. |
