PURPOSE:To provide a novel antibiotic substance SS8228B exhibiting antibacterial activity against the bacteria of Bacillus genus, Staphylococcus genus, Sarcina genus, Streptococcus genus and Micrococcus genus, by culturing Streptomyces sp. S8228. CONSTITUTION:The novel antibiotic substance SS8228B can be prepared by culturing Streptomyces sp. S8228 (FERM-P No.7180) separated newly from the soil. The antibiotic substance has the following physical and chemical properties. Appearance, white amorphous powder; melting point, 109-112 deg.C; acidity and alkalinity, neutral; solubility, soluble in benzene, diethyl ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, ethanol and methanol; hardly soluble in water and n-hexane; elementary analysis, C 63.40%, H 7.20%, N 14.34% (experimental values). |
