PURPOSE:To form a device in a compact size further decrease a number of its part items, by concurrently providing an additional function of one-way clutch, formed by a steel ball, conical wheel, fixed plate, carrier and a resilient member, in a speed reduction mechanism. CONSTITUTION:If a starter switch is closed, electromagnetic force of a solenoid device 3 advances a pinion gear 28 to its meshing position with a ring gear in an engine side through a lever 11 and a moving device 29. Simultaneously, an electric motor 1 is started, and its torque is transmitted by contact force by pressure in accordance with a turning effect, by moving a carrier 25 till it is adapted to a stopper part 26a against pressing force of a resilient member 30 while moving a steel ball 24 along a space between the sloped surface of a recessed groove 25a and a conical wheel 21. Then a speed of the motor 1, being reduced by a planetary motion of the steel ball 24, is transmitted to a driving shaft 26. Next, if a speed in the engine side increases, a starter device functions as a one-way clutch by releasing contact of the steel ball 24 with the recessed groove 25a of the carrier 25. In this way, the starter device is formed in a compact size by arranging its reduction gear mechanism in an equal shaft to the shaft of the electric motor, reducing alos the number of part items. |
