PURPOSE:To obtain easily a liquid crystal cell having good chemical resistance, heat resistance and adhesion and high reliability and to enable reduction in weight and thickness and curving of the surface by using polyether ether ketone for a plastic substrate film. CONSTITUTION:Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is used for the plastic substrate film of a pair of transparent electrodes which sandwich a liquid crystal material by combining transparent conductive plastic films provided with transparent conductive thin films on the surface with polarizing plates. The PEEK has low hygroscopicity and good chemical resistance, is not attacked by chemicals except concn. sulfuic acid, has excellent heat resistance and adhesion and permits the use of the existing orientation treating agent and adhesive agent used for a glass substrate. The liquid crystal cell having high reliability is therefore easily obtd. Since the thickness of the substrate can be decreased, the weight and thickness of the liquid crystal display element are reduced and curving of said element is possible as well. |
