A large body of ice(4) is required for the construction of a drilling or production platform, breakwater, quay or large fill and is produced by introducing an insulated floating mold into the sea near land. The mold and ice are moved to an offshore erection site and the draft is increased until the mold and ice are submerged and rest on the seabed for subsequent use in construction. Slab-shaped bodies are produced and floated separately, assembled one on top of another, and anchored, with heating elements between the slabs so that they can be separated. A heavy structure, such as a drilling tower, is pref. anchored deep down in the ice below the water line.
