PURPOSE:To widen the solid solution range of hydroxide of cobalt and nickel and obtain an active material which stably works in the repetition of charging and discharging by treating a mixed solution of cobalt and nickel by an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal or an amalgam of these metals. CONSTITUTION:A positive plate is constituted mainly of an active material made by treating a mixed solution of cobalt and nickel in which the content of the nickel to the total of the cobalt and nickel is 35-65wt%, such as the solution of CoSO4-NiSO4 group, CoCl2-NiCl2 group, or Co(NO3)2-Ni(NO3)2 group is treated by an alkali metal such as sodium and potassium and an alkaline earth metal such as calcium or an amalgam of these metals. By these processes the usability rate of the active material in the positive plate of cobalt hydroxide is remarkably increased and high capacity cells such as cobalt-cadmium cells, cobalt-lead cells, and cobalt-iron cells can be obtained. |
