NEW MATERIAL:Lithosperman A (a polysaccharide: molecular weight, 6,700; specific rotary power: [alpha]D=+170 deg. (co. 75, water); elementary analyses (%): C39.97, H5.12, N0.00; Elution time in gel chromatography 19.4hr; Elution time in DEAE-toyopearl chromatography: 7.6hr) and B and C. USE:Hypoglycemia. PREPARATION:SHIKON (e.g., Lithospermi Radix or other relating plants) is extracted in its roots with an aqueuous organic solvent, directly or after its lipid is removed with an oil-soluble organic solvent. The extract is directly dialyzed or subjected to ultrafiltration to obtain lithosperman mixture. The mixture is fractionated in accordance with molecular weight to give fractions of lithospermans A, B and C, respectively. The dose is 50-500mg/day and preferably given in 2 or 3 portions of 100-250mg. |
