PURPOSE:To prevent desensitization due to time lapse and to retain stability of sensitivity for a long period by using a specified merocyanine dye. CONSTITUTION:A merocyanine dye used in this invention is represented by formula I or II in which R1 is alkyl; A1 is alkyl, phenyl, or pyridyl; Y1 is O, S, Se, =CR3.R4, =N-R5, or -CH=CH-; R3, R4 are each methyl or ethyl; R5 is <6C alkyl or allyl; Y2 is O, S, or =N-A2; A2 is <6C alkyl, allyl, phenyl, or pyridyl; Z1 is an atomic group necessary to form a benzene or naphthyl ring; L1-L6 are each methine or L2 and L4, or L4 and L6 may link to form a 5- or 6-membered ring; Y3 is same as Y2, R7 is same as R1, and A3 is same as A1; A4 is 1-4C alkyl, halogen, phenyl, hydroxy, 1-4C alkoxy, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, alkylsulfamoyl, alkylcarbamoyl, acyl, cyano, trifluoromethyl or nitro; and L7-L10 are each methine optionally substd. by optionally substd. alkyl, allyl, or alkoxy. The use of such a dye permits desensitization due to time lapse also in the case of being used for an IR sensitive layer to be reduced, and the prescribed sensitivity of a thermodevelopable photosensitive material to be retained for a long-term storage, and its stability to be enhanced.
