A floppy disk cassette has top and bottom plastic plates (2a, 2b) that are adhesive-bonded along the edges. The floppy disk is sandwiched between two half disks that provide a rigid center boss for location on the turntable. When the cassette is not in use, the aperture is sealed to prevent dirt particles from entering. Locked within the cassette housing is a pivoted element(9) that is used to block the aperture (4) for the pick-up head. A flexible strip (10) connects with the bottom edge of the sealing element and lies in a groove between the top and bottom cover plates. When the cassette is in use, a carrier block is moved during loading to give access to the pick-up slot.
