The prophylactic or therapeutic self-brush unit for use by cattle comprises a vertical brush and a horizontal brush carried via a spring to permit its movement in any direction. A container (1) with a liquid anti-ectoparasite agent or therapeutic agent is connected, via a flexible tube (2) and valve (3), to dispensing nozzles (4) which are arranged in the horizontal brush. Each contain a valve opened against a spring by a plastics rod extending between the tufts of the bush.
