<p>1,3-Dithiol-2-ylidene malonate is made by reaction of 1,3-dithiolane 2-thione with lauryl iodide of formula (I), to give the salt of formula (II), which is then condensed with diisopropyl malonate. Condensn. is under anhydrous conditions at 50-150 deg.C in presence of an acid acceptor, such as an alkaline hydroxide, carbonate, bicarbonate or alkoxide, and a tert. amine catalyst such as (3,6-fioxapetyl) amine in amt. of 0.05-0.15 mols per mol reactant. Suitable solvents are aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbons, such as benzene, toluene, dichloromethane or chloroform.</p> |
