PURPOSE:To obtain a high-purity modified oligosaccharide in good efficiency, by fractionating madified oligosaccharides by ion exchange chromatography. CONSTITUTION:A modified oligosaccharide which is used as a substrate for the determination of the acitivities of pancreatic alpha-amylase and salivary alpha-amylase by fractionation is obtained by fractionating modified oligosaccharides by ion exchange chromatography. Examples of the modified oliosaccharides applicalbe include modifies oligosacchardes composed of glucose, glucitol and/or glucose modified with 2-pyridylamino, 3-pyridylamino, a fluorescent substituent such as a group of the formula, or an UV-abosrbing substituent such as anilino, methylanilino, hydroxyanilino, or carboxy-phenylamino.
