A machine for erecting carton blanks comprises a plunger 11, means 15 to 18 for swinging the plunger about a pivot 14 so that it can withdraw, by suction, a carton blank 20 from a stack 19 and return with it to the position shown in Fig. 1 opposite a folding aperture 21, and means 10 for advancing the plunger 11 in a straight line to force the carton blank held thereon into the folding aperture 21 to form an erected carton. The sequence of operations is initiated by cams 31, 32, 33 on a common shaft 34, actuating valves 23, 27, 30 in air conduits connected to the plunger 11, the cylinder 10, and a further piston and cylinder unit 15 for rocking the cylinder 10. Folding members, not shown, can be provided in or near the aperture 21 to erect the side flaps of the carton, not simultaneously but successively. The erected carton is removed by a conveyer and may be ejected by compressed air. |
