PURPOSE:To detect the position of a carriage precisely by counting the number of a gear conducting engagement printing operation with rack teeth and the teeth of a rack shaft. CONSTITUTION:A moving command is inputted to a motor 27 installed to a carriage 25 from a controller and a pinion gear 30 is turned, and the carriage 25 is forwarded by a predetermined pitch in either direction of the left and the right. Sensors 28, 29 consisting of magnetic induction elements fixed to the carriage 25 face a rack gear 23a, and spaces among the sensors 28, 29 and the tooth crests and roots of the rack gear 23a differ, thus each emitting output signals, on the basis of voltage induced conformed to the pitches of the rack gear. Printing signals are inputted to a printing head 26 in response to printing commands from a control circuit according to the printing timing signals 37, thus conducting prescribed printing operation. |
