Supported in the top of the tank is a pressure header reservoir fed by horizontal inlets. Water under pressure leaves the header tank via a nozzle and falls onto the blades of a turbine. The shaft of the turbine is coupled via a chain drive to an electric generator which produces the useful output of the device. The water reaching the bottom of the tank is pumped back up to the original level by a pump which is also powered by the turbine via a chain drive.
