The starter device for main turbines has a closed loop circuit (12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 9) for controlling acceleration during the stage when the rotational speed increases. The acceleration reference is provided by the maximum output level of a circuit (15), the input of which receives an error signal supplied by an adder (14), between a signal (fG) which represents the present speed of the unit controlled, and a signal (f2), the value of which corresponds to the speed to be reached.
