The invention concerns a method of producing auranofin by allowing a combination with the formulawhere M is potassium or silver orand AC is acetyl, reacting in a combination with the formula,where X is chloride or bromide, in an inert solution, in which the reactants are soluble. Auranofin can be used for the treatment of arthritis.
