The invention relates to an apparatus for the spacing and, if necessary, subsequent transverse movement of layers of rolled rod stock according to the calibration for example of the multi-wheel straightening machine or shears arranged downstream. Derived from this aim, the object was to prevent a shift of individual rods by surrounding the rod profile as completely as possible, in order thereby to guarantee a reliable mode of operation. The solution provides above and below the layer of rolled rod stock respectively a vertically movable cassette, in which spacing elements subdivided into spacer bosses and spacer pieces and engaging reciprocally into one another are guided and can be pulled apart from one another by means of working cylinders. The sector of use of the invention is the finishing shop of rolling mills. <IMAGE>
