PURPOSE:To obtain glass products having a precise dimentional accuracy by a simple operation by gelatinizing the sol solution of glass, drying, molding this dried gel, then sintering. CONSTITUTION:In a sol-gel process by which glass is obtained by gelatinizing the sol solution and drying to obtain the dried gel then by sintering it; the cutting, polishing, boring, etc. are carried out at the stage of the dried gel, molding is performed and this dried gel is then sintered to obtain the object glass products. The dried gel obtained by gelatinizing and drying the sol solution can be readily cut by a mechanical method because of its porous structure. The dried gel can be processed into the desired shape without breaking it except than an excessive stress is applied thereon. The glass products having a precise dimensional accuracy can be also produced, if the processing of the dried gel is carried out considering the degree of shrinkage. Further, since the molding is performed at the stage of the dried gel, the phenomenon of breaking is not generated in the sintering process. |
