PURPOSE:To obtain a print pulse having width corresponding to gradation data of each dot by using a carry output of a counter as the gradation data of each dot of a line head to process the gradation data at high speed. CONSTITUTION:An address counter 6 is increased by 1 with an output (a) of a clock generating circuit 7 and the data of the next address of the line memory 5 is processed. In repeating it by time, the data for one line's 2<n> times, the data for one line's share is filled in a shift register 4, loaded to a latch circuit 3 by an output (h) of the circuit 7 and print is executed for a period T through a drive circuit 2. Since the gradation data stored in the memory 5 is m bits, the operation above is repeated 2<m> times. In this case, the content of the memory 5 is decreased by 1 until the value reaches 0 at each period T, and every time the content is zero, the carry out (d) of the counter 8 changes to 0. Thus, the output of each dot of the circuit 2 is proportional to the data value correspond ing to the memory 5 and the pulse width is controlled up to 2<m> in the minimum unit time T.
