PURPOSE:To obtain the best luster and smoothness by changing the number of revolutions of an atomizer head of a rotary atomization electrostatic coating device in accordance with the kind of a paint. CONSTITUTION:In a method of coating an automobile body carried on a continuous automatic conveyor line 1, a metallic base is coated or not by an air atomization coating device 2 at the first stage. A clear paint or a slit paint is coated at the succeeding second stage by a rotary atomization electrostatic coating device 3 at the predetermined numbers of revolutions which are respectively different in accordance with the painted color. The coated films formed at the first and the second stage are baked and cured at the third stage. Namely, the best luster and smoothness can be obtained by changing the number of revolutions of an atomizer head 6 of the rotary atomization electrostatic coating device 3 in accordance with the kind of a paint.
