PURPOSE:The reaction between an aromatic nitro compound and carbon monoxide is carried out in the presence of a major catalyst and a cocatalyst containing an iron compound and a vanadium compound to enable easy and high-yield production of the titled production which is used as a feedstock for polyurethane and agricultural chemicals. CONSTITUTION:When an aromatic isocyanate is prepared by reaction between an aromatic nitro compound and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst selected from mixtures of Pd or its compound with nitrogen-containing heterocy clic compounds such as pyrrole, Pd complexes containing the heterocyclic compounds as a ligand; and mixture of the complex with the nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound at elevated temperature and pressure, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a compound bearing active hydrogens such as HCN using a cocatalyst which is composed of a phosphorus halide such as PF3, an iron compound such as ferrous chloride, a vanadium compound such as vanadium trichloride (VCl3) and a tertiary amine such as triethylamine (TEA). |
