PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound useful as a raw material of heat-resistant resin, in high yield, by condensing 4-chloronitrobenzene with a nitrophenol compound in the presence of polyethylene glycol or its lower alkyl ether and reducing the condensed product. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by (1) condensing 4-chloronitrobenzene with a nitrophenol compound in the presence of a dehydrochlorination agent (e.g. potassium carbonate) using polyethylene glycol or its lower alkyl ether as a catalyst at 100-240 deg.C and (2) reducing the produced dinitrodiphenyl ether in a solvent such as water, methanol, etc., in the presence of a reduction catalyst such as palladium, platinum, etc., at 0-150 deg.C. |
