PURPOSE:To obtain membrane having compound function for removing ion and fine particle simultaneously with high efficiency by graft polymerizing anionic or cationic reactive monomer on the surface of porous base membrane. CONSTITUTION:Suitable base membrane is one having 0.01-5mum pore size, 0.01-10mm thickness, and <35dyn/cm critical surface tension. Cationic or anionic reactive monomer is graft-polymerized on the base membrane. In this stage, a mixture of a nonreactive monomer such as styrene, divinyl styrene, methacrylic ester with the reactive monomer may be used for the graft polymn. It is necessary that the graft polymers are present on the surface of the pores. Further, the concn. of the anionic or cationic reactive group in the graft membrane is adjusted to 0.5-30%. The conditions for the graft polymn. are controlled to 0.01<(permeation velocity for water of the graft membrane)/(permeation velocity for water of the base membrane)<0.7.
