PURPOSE:To manufacture a sintered stainless steel article having superior resistance to sulfuric acid by working accompanied by no or slight machining by coating austenitic stainless steel powder with a specified amount of Cu and compacting and sintering it. CONSTITUTION:Austenitic stainless steel powder of 30-200mum particle size is coated with 1-20wt% Cu by plating, vapor deposition, sputtering or other method. The Cu coated stainless steel powder is compacted to the desired shape under 7t/cm<2> pressure and sintered at 1,200 deg.C for 2hr in a hydrogen atmosphere. A sintered stainless steel article having improved resistance to sulfuric acid by uniformly dispersed Cu is obtd. by working accompanied by non- or slight- machining, at a low cost.
