The mechanism for welding together two superimposed objects wholly or partly consisting of or coated with plastic comprises two members actuated to clamp the objects between them and apply heat thereto to produce the weld(s). Each member comprises a number of spaced electrically conducting elements in series via resistance metal coupling elements which are provided with projecting portions facing similar portions of the coupling elements of the other member such that the objects are clamped between the respective projections when the members are pressed together. The plates may be arranged around a central recess in the base. The members may be arranged in a frame whereby the upper member is fixed and the lower vertically movable by actuator.
