PURPOSE:To enable the discrimination of an AT car and a MT car and simplify the structure by detecting the signal level at the input port of an engine operating parameter signal in an engine in which either of two control data is selected in response to a manual transmission or an automatic transmission. CONSTITUTION:In an engine in which fuel quantity injected from a fuel injection device 1 and the ignition timing of an ignition device 2 are controlled by an ECU3 respectively, a shift lever position sensor 4 which outputs a signal corresponding to the shift lever position of an automatic transmission in the case of AT car, and, in the case of MT car, a constant voltage supply means not shown in the figure in stead of the above sensor 4 are connected to the input port 3a of the ECU3 respectively. And, for instance in the AT car, it is so designed that if an inhibitor 6A which is interlocked in the shift lever position of the automatic transmission in the case of a starter switch 6 ON is turned ON in the N-range, the ECU3 selects the first control data, and that if the inhibitor 6A is turned OFF in the D-range it selects the second control data.
