PURPOSE:To obtain an anti-inflammatory analgesic ointment giving low stimulation to skin and having high absorbability, by compounding indomethacin with a basic amino acid as a dissolution agent, a gelling agent, and carrageenan, xanthan gum, etc., as a thickener at specific ratios. CONSTITUTION:The objective ointment can be produced by mixing (A) 0.5-1.5wt% indomethacin with (B) a medium composed of 0.5-10wt% basic amino acid, 10-60wt% lower alcohol and 20-60wt% water and (C) a gelling agent or thickener consisting of one or more components selected from carageenan, furcellaran, locust bean gum and xanthan gum, and adding 0.5-10wt% lactic acid ester (preferably containing 12-18C alcohol component) as an absorbent. The skin stimulation and stickiness are decreased compared with an ointment containing glucose as a dissolution agent. It has high spreadability and is producible easily without necessitating the control of pH. It has high absorbability into the skin.
