PURPOSE:To increase wire drawing speed and to improve productivity of light transmitting line by recoating melt-drawn glass fiber with a liquid resin compsn. using a felt pad, then coating regularly liq. resin compsn. regularly by passing the glass fiber through a liq. tank. CONSTITUTION:Light transmitting glass fiber 11 melt-drawn from a parent material 10 is passed through a felt pad 16 immediately fter drawing to precoat a liquid resin compsn. contained in the pad. Then, the precoated glass fiber 11 is passed through a liquid tank 12 to execute regular coating with the liquid resin compsn. 13 contained in the liquid tank 12. In this stage, it is preferred that the liquid resin compsn. for the precoating and regular coating is a same one. Further, the glass fiber 11 is passed through an electric furnace 14 to bake the coated resin compsn, then the fiber 11 is wound by a reel 15. Thus, the wettability of the surface of the glass fiber 11 is improved, and the coating film comprising the resin compsn. is formed securely permitting preparation of light transmitting line at high wire drawing speed.
