PURPOSE:To confirm the collation of identify for a card owner as well as the propriety of a terminal equipment by providing an external device which confirms the correspondence between an individual identification card storing the identification information on the user and the terminal equipment connected in place of the individual identification card. CONSTITUTION:The merchant card 13 of a store owner is put into a card terminal 12 owned by the store owner. Then the terminal 12 decides the justice of the card 13 if the correspondence is secured between the numerical data supplied by a key and the decoding data displayed at a display part 15. Then a card user inserts a user card 11 to the terminal 12, the account number PAN and the ciphered account number PAN' which are extracted out of a PAN memory 35 at the card side are decoded at the terminal side. Then 'PIN=?' is displayed when the coincidence is obtained between the PAN and the PAN' and it is decided that the card 11 which is under connection is identical to the right one corresponding to the terminal 12. Then the card user supplies an identification number PIN by a key. When the coincidence is secured between the input PIN and the identification number of the genuine card owner stored in a PIN memory 43, it is decided that the owner of the card 11 is identical with the jenuine card owner. |
