The oxidation reactor comprises means for feeding an oxidising gas 12 and an oxidisable feedstock 6 and means for discharging the reaction products 9. It additionally comprises the following combination: - at least one distributor 2 for oxidising gas, connected, on the one hand, to the means 12 for feeding oxidising gas and, on the other hand, to a plurality of porous parallel conduits 3, 4 made of ceramic material; - at least one first monolith 7 comprising a plurality of adjoining parallel channels 13 made of ceramic material, each of the channels having a section of between 0.0025 and 100 mm<2>, connected to the said means 12 for feeding an oxidisable feedstock; - at least one second monolith 8 comprising a plurality of adjoining parallel channels 13 made of ceramic material and suitable especially for channelling the reaction products towards the said means for discharging 9, each of the channels 13 having a section of between 0.0025 and 100 mm<2>, the first 7 and the second monolith 8 being situated on either side of the said porous conduits 3, 4 at a distance of 0.05 to 10 mm from the latter.
