PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. which has a high thickening effect at a low concn. can retain stably its thickening effect against heat and light and can impart desired dryness, consisting of a water-insoluble water-absorbing resin, a specified N-oxypyridine-2-thiol derivative and a solvent. CONSTITUTION:0.01-5pts. powdered, particulate or flaky water-insoluble water- absorbing resin (A) (e.g., a hydrolyzate of a starch/acrylonitrile graft polymer) obtd. by polymerizing starch or cellulose (a) with a water-soluble monomer, etc. (b) and a crosslinking agent, etc. (c) and optionally hydrolyzing the polymer is uniformly mixed with 0.001-0.5pts. N-oxypyridine-2-thiol derivative (B) of the formula [wherein R is H, halogen, a 1-10C alkyl, an alkenyl, an aryl, an aralykyl, etc.; M is H, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, NH4, lower amine cation] and 100pts. solvent (c) consisting of 100-40pts. water and 0-60pts. polyhydric alcohol (its oxyalkylene ether) (e.g, polyethylene glycol).
