PURPOSE:To decrease the sliding quantity of a sliding nozzle while assuring control accuracy and to extend the life of said nozzle by controlling the molten steel level in a mold by using a molten steel level controller, sliding nozzle opening degree controller and calculator for a control part. CONSTITUTION:After the molten steel 11 in a ladle 10 is poured through the nozzle 12 into a tundish 9, the flow rate of the molten steel is controlled by the sliding nozzle 3 to be slid by the command from a control part 30 to pour the molten steel into a mold 1. The value of the molten steel level in the mold detected by a level detector 6 and the set value of the molten steel level are inputted to the molten steel level controller 20 in the control part 30 and the output from the controller 20 and the opening degree of the sliding nozzle detected by an opening degree detector 7 are inputted to a sliding nozzle opening degree controller 21. The speed command value is calculated by a calculator 22 using the output of the controller 21. The speed command value is inputted to a speed control circuit 5 which drives an electrically driven cylinder 4 to slide the sliding nozzle 3, by which the opening degree thereof is controlled.
