<p>PURPOSE:To orient liquid crystal molecules radially and to perform the orienting processing with high precision and to reduce the production cost by bringing a friction roller into contact with a substrate through a slit aperture of a shielding plate while rotating the roller and moving the contacting part back and forth between the peripheral part and the center part. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 2 constituting a liquid crystal cell is rotated at a sufficiently low speed in the direction of an arrow by a rotating means 1. A friction roller 5 is rotated in the direction of an arrow by a rotating means 7. A cotton cloth or other pulp material stuck to the outer peripheral surface of the roller 5 laps the substrate 2 through a slit 4 provided in a shielding plate 3. The substrate 2 is lapped while moving the roller back and forth in the radial direction of the substrate 2 through a moving device 9. Thus, liquid crystal molecules in the substrate 2 are oriented radially.</p> |
