PURPOSE:To surely remove foreign matters on a blade to prevent the occurrence of cleaning defects by interposing a sheet having a prescribed aperture between the cleaning blade and a photosensitive body and moving the sheet to clean the blade. CONSTITUTION:A blade 3 is supported turnably on a shaft 5 of a cleaning device 1 and is pressed to a photosensitive body 2 by an energizing means. A cleaning sheet 6 having an aperture 61 is stretched among rolls 7, 8, and 9 and is driven by a gear 71. Though the blade 3 is normally pressed to the photosensitive body 2 through the aperture 61 in this constitution, the sheet 6 is driven clockwise by a cleaning command to rub the blade 3 and foreign matters on the blade are removed when the blade 3 is cleaned. When the aperture 61 is detected by a detection switch 11, the sheet 6 is stopped. Thus, foreign matters on the blade are removed surely to prevent the occurrence of cleaning defects.
