PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an omega chain raw material for prostaglandin as local hormone efficiently, by subjecting a 4-hydroxy-3- methyloctyne to rearrangement reaction of carbon of silyl group oxygen. CONSTITUTION:A 4-hydroxy-4-methyl-1-octyne(preferably S or R of steric configuration at the 4-position) shown by formula I (R<1>-R<3> are 1-7C hydrocarbon) is subjected to rearrangement reaction carbon of silyl group oxygen preferably by the use of a reagent such as a fluorinated salt, anhydrous fluorinated salt, sellaite-fluorinated salt, spray dried fluorinated salt, molecular sieve fluorinated salt, etc. to give the aimed compound [e.g., (4S)-4-trimethylsilyloxy-4- methyl-1-octyne, etc.,] shown by formula II.
